Evergreen niches can be described as niches that will continue to have demand regardless of trends or, how much time passes. Basically, these niches will constantly have people looking for information or products related to it. E.g health, earn money from home, dating. It is only if you have customers for your products, you will be able to make money online from affiliate marketing products.

Once you choose an evergreen niche and start to look at products to promote, you would want to make sure that the content or, information offered in the products you are investigating is relevant with today’s situation. This is one reason why you should actually buy the product you will be promoting or, at least see if you can get a review copy or, some information that will allow you to get an idea of what your visitors will be buying.

The product should be kept up to date with new changes, content, etc and not contain stuff that worked in 1999 but not so well in 2011 for example.

Persuasive Sales Copy

Before you delve deeper into promoting certain affiliate products, you need to read through the sales copy and decide whether the sales copy “moves” you into buying mode or, not. Think as if you are the potential customer reading the sales copy. Does reading the sales page make you want to pull out your credit card?

Things were going pretty smooth until Google released Panda into the arena. Contrary to its delightful name (i.e. Panda), the update turned out to be a raging bull, knocking out many affiliate websites with thin content, along with the content farms.

The Future of Affiliate Marketing:

So, does the affiliate marketing future looks gloomy just because Google has ditched the websites with lots of affiliate links and thin content? Certainly not, true that Google has came down hard on those websites, but the primary reason for the penalty are not affiliate links but thin content. The thing is that the majority of affiliate marketers were busy investing in link building (or off-page optimization to be precise), while paying absolutely no attention to their on-site content, using the same description and price comparisons being used on hundreds of similar websites. All these factors worked like indicators for Google that the website is adding no value to the web, hence deserves penalty.

So, what are we supposed to do?

The penalty has changed the way you are supposed to run a website meant for affiliate marketing. To keep it short and practical, you’ll have to create lots of unique and quality content in order to rank well in SERP’s. Take the example of a TV channel that shows lots and lots of advertisement and fewer programs as compared to a channel that airs more programs and fewer ads. Which one would you prefer? Google wants the same, serve more content and lesser ads (affiliate links), and everything will be fine.

Social Media:

For any business looking for good rankings and traffic, social media is fast becoming a necessity, and affiliate marketing is no different. If you want more traffic, more buzz, more sales, and better rankings (note that social signals are now considered a search engine ranking factor), you’ve got to make the most of social media. Again keep the “value” thing in mind, just posting your website’s links and doing “like exchanges” won’t really cut it for you.

But off and on, I have seen quite a few posts at shoemoney, which kind of shook me to the core. I couldn’t quite agree with what Jeremy had written in his post.

One such post that he wrote some time back was this one.

It was a response to a commentator who had challenged Shoe to start from scratch and build his wealth again. Indeed, it was a nice topic to write on and I would have loved to write about it, had I been Jeremy.

But, the response that Shoemoney had did not make sense.

Instead of taking the challenge head-on, Shoe went on to write 8 paragraphs of what all negatives success could bring with it. He spoke about his distractions like public speaking, meeting with accountants, legal issues etc.

He goes on to write about the money he needs to make to break-even because of the huge bills he had to pay his accountants etc.

Then comes a rather surprising comment -

So… you… sitting at home… much like me 7 years ago on unemployment, I envy you.

What did he mean by that?

The post finally says that there are lot of things that are going against affiliate marketing (probably pointing out the bleak future of affiliate marketing) and ends with a motivational line asking you to “go do it”.

Did this post make sense?

Not to me at least. SUCCESS has no other option.

Things like “Distractions” and “Bills” are a partner to the celebrity status. It is not a part of success. You have a choice to decide where you want to draw the line. That is a conscious decision that you have to make.

But should these things keep you away from succeeding. NO!

Spending that precious moments with you family, taking your baby in your arms and playing with her for hours and hours together, being by your wife when she is ill, going to those beaches in summer with you family…..These are things that you need and success is what can get you there.

Affiliate marketing – Is it dead? No, it will never die. Till the time people keep looking for success and till the day we remain consumers, affiliate marketing will live. Just that it will be a bit more regulated. You and I and thousands like us starting off with a dream will not have to burn their pockets on crappy tutorial videos and study materials.

I am game for it and so will thousands of affiliate marketers be.

What most affiliate marketers forget is that even if a market is big enough to support an online retailer or two, that doesn’t necessarily mean its big enough to support affiliates.
